Dambulla

Located in Sri Lanka’s Central Province, Dambulla is best known for its extraordinary Cave Temple complex, also called the Golden Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country’s most remarkable cultural treasures.

This vast network of ancient caves is adorned with intricate Buddhist murals and over 150 stunning Buddha statues, making it the largest and best-preserved cave temple complex in Sri Lanka. Rising dramatically above the surrounding plains, the caves offer not only spiritual insight but also sweeping views of the countryside below.

Beyond the temples, Dambulla serves as an excellent base for exploring nearby highlights such as the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the ancient city of Anuradhapura. With its rich history, striking landscapes, and central location, Dambulla provides travelers with a unique and rewarding stop, perfectly positioned between Kandy and Sigiriya.
